Secure PDF tools

3 tools in the secure family

3 free tools. Passwords, permissions and unlocking. Everything runs in your browser and no account is needed to start.

About the secure tools

Three tools that decide who can open a PDF and what they can do with it. Protect a file with a password, remove the password from a file you are allowed to open, or keep it openable while restricting printing, copying and edits.

  • Send something confidential

Protect PDF adds an open password so only people you share it with can read the file.

  • Stop copying and printing

Restrict PDF keeps the document readable but blocks printing, text copying or changes, using 256-bit AES encryption.

  • Remove a password you know

Unlock PDF takes the password off a file you own so you stop typing it every time.

  • Prepare a final version

Pair Restrict PDF with Flatten PDF from the Edit family for a document that stays exactly as you sent it.

Questions about secure tools

What encryption does Restrict PDF use?

Restrict PDF encrypts the document with 256-bit AES and sets the permission flags PDF readers honour for printing, copying and modification.

Can you unlock a PDF without the password?

No. Unlock PDF removes protection only when you provide the correct password. It is for files you are entitled to open.

Are my files kept after processing?

Files are encrypted in transit and deleted automatically: after 1 hour for guests, 24 hours for free accounts and 7 days for Premium.
